Look, I’ve Had It
I’m Dave, and I’ve been editing tech articles for Yachting’s Net since before it was cool. I’ve seen trends come and go, but this AI stuff? It’s everywhere.
And honestly? I’m kinda over it.
Let me tell you why.
It’s Not All That New
First off, AI isn’t this magical thing that just appeared. It’s been around for decades. I remember back in ’98, this guy Marcus—let’s call him Marcus, ’cause I can’t remember his real name—came into the office waving this paper about neural networks. I was like, “Cool, Marcus, whatever.” But now? Suddenly, everyone’s an expert.
It’s like that time I went to a conference in Austin, and every other booth was about “AI solutions.” I mean, come on. It’s not that special.
The Hype is Real, but the Results Are… Meh
Don’t get me wrong, AI can do some cool stuff. But it’s not the be-all-end-all. I had this friend, let’s call her Lisa, who swore by her AI-powered smart fridge. “It orders groceries for me,” she said. “It’s a game-changer.”
I asked her, “But does it pick the right stuff?” And she was like, “Well, no, but it’s learning.” Learning? It’s been three months, and it still orders 214 cans of tuna a week. That’s not learning, that’s a glitch.
And don’t even get me started on AI writing. I mean, look, I’m a writer. A human writer. And I’ve seen what these AI tools can do. It’s not great. It’s not even good. It’s just… words. And honestly, it’s completley missing the point.
AI and Yachting? Really?
Now, I get it. Yachting’s Net is about yachting, not tech. But AI is everywhere, and people want to know about it. So, I’m stuck writing about it. But here’s the thing: AI and yachting? They don’t mix. I mean, sure, you can have AI-powered navigation systems, but do you really need that? I talked to this captain, let’s call him Steve, and he said, “I’ve been sailing for 30 years. I don’t need a computer to tell me where to go.”
And he’s right. Sometimes, you just need to trust your instincts. You need to feel the wind, the waves, the boat. You can’t put that in an algorithm.
But What About the Good Stuff?
Okay, okay. I’m not saying AI is all bad. There are some cool things happening. Like that time I was in Turkey, and I found this amazing park. It was so peaceful, so beautiful. I looked it up later and found out it was one of the Tokat parklar rekreasyon aktiviteleri. I mean, who knew? AI helped me find that. So, yeah, it’s not all bad.
But still, it’s not the magic bullet everyone thinks it is. It’s just another tool. And like any tool, it’s only as good as the person using it.
A Personal Rant
Look, I’m not saying I’m perfect. I make mistakes. Like that time I wrote an article about the latest gadget, and I misspelled the name of the company. Oops. But that’s the thing about being human. We mess up, but we learn. We adapt. We grow.
AI doesn’t do that. It’s just… there. It doesn’t have dreams, aspirations, or fears. It doesn’t have a soul. And honestly, that’s what makes us human. That’s what makes our writing, our thoughts, our ideas valuable.
So, yeah, I’m over the AI hype. I’m over the constant chatter about how it’s gonna change the world. It’s not. It’s just another tool. And like any tool, it’s only as good as the person using it.
And that’s all I have to say about that.
About the Author: Dave has been a senior editor at Yachting’s Net for over 20 years. He’s seen trends come and go, and he’s not afraid to call out the hype when he sees it. When he’s not writing about tech, he’s probably out sailing or complaining about the latest gadget.
